NLP's Four Dimensional Reality
In grade school we were taught three dimensions of space--height, length and width. In college some of us learned about Albert Einstein adding a fourth dimension, time. Indeed, these four dimensions accurately describe physical objects in space and time. However, the four space-time dimensions say nothing about the meaning, interpretation and value that we give to objects and people when we perceive them. To describe our emotional, intellectual and spiritual experiences we must rely on neurolinguistics programming (NLP) to define our four-dimensional world:

Getting Well, Staying Well
Over fifteen years ago a health food store owner described how visualization helped cure her cancer. She then handed me a copy of her visualization bible, Getting
Well Again. Never one to doubt the power of the mind, I bought the book with the rationale that if visualization does wonders for someone with cancer, then visualization can also help
someone like me who is in good health. O. Carl Simonton, an oncologist, and Stephanie Matthews-Simonton, a psychologist, co-wrote Getting Well Again, a pioneering technique in mind-body
medicine. In their book, the Simontons outline the theory behind visualization, explain the Simonton method, and detail case studies. Getting Well Again is no longer in print, but
more recent Simonton visualization work is available through bookstores. My clients report that the Simonton books and tapes help support and enhance their hypnotherapy.

Process Hypnosis
When prospective clients call for information, I often tell them a proverb: "Give a man a fish, you feed him once. Teach him how to fish, you feed him for a lifetime." (For female clients, "Give a woman a fish, you feed her once. Teach her how to fish, you feed her for a lifetime."). After telling clients the fishing metaphor, I add, "My goal is to teach you how to fish." Usually this statement is an attention grabber.

Effortless Effort
Hypnotherapy can sometimes be very difficult work, in part because the nature of the business is helping people with problems. Also, patients who are resistant, non-compliant or in the midst of transference present additional challenges. The odds are the more patients you see, the greater the chance of having challenging clients. Anything that makes it easier for hypnotherapists is good for hypnotherapists and good for their clients.

The Major and Margaret
After a group past life regression in April 1999, Margaret said to the class, "I was 99% sure I was Major John Pelham in a previous life, but now I'm 100% positive." What Margaret did next shocked both the class and me. She held up a photograph of Major Pelham beside her face. The Civil War Soldier and Margaret's features looked exactly alike from the neck up. The Major and Margaret have grey eyes, dark blonde hair and nearly identical faces. Margaret and John both have the same body type, tall and slim. Later in a private session Margaret told me she is a female in this life because American women are not required to fight in wars. Margaret reincarnated not to destroy lives through military battles, but to save them through medicine. In this life, her profession is a nurse. Margaret is an example of how some of us follow both a conscious and unconscious path to discovering our past lives.

Macrobiotics for Personal Growth
The most important aspect of macrobiotics is personal growth, although, sadly, it is often misunderstood or ignored. Our physical health probably depends more on our mental and emotional maturity than on the foods we eat. The emotions of anger, fear, resentment and sadness weaken the body and make it more prone to disease. Emotional stress causes physical wear and tear, premature aging and even death. Every macrobiotic person considers food important, but the real question is, “What thoughts and feelings are you feeding your mind and body?
The cosmic cycle explains the macrobiotic process of mental, emotional and spiritual development. Every man, woman and child has his or her own cosmic growth cycle. The lives of people who never consciously practice macrobiotics fluctuate with changes in their cosmic cycle just the same. As with people who don’t consider themselves macrobiotic, your cosmic cycle is as unique as your set of fingerprints. There will never again be another cosmic cycle like yours. If you heed your cosmic cycle, it will lead you to more vitality, fulfillment, meaning, satisfaction and joy.

SPECT Studies
Four-hundred psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers and at least one hypnotherapist crowded into a Chicago-area hotel conference room to hear the most recent methods to diagnosis and treat the human brain. Daniel Amen, M.D., author of 20 books and one of a dozen psychiatrists in the world certified in nuclear medicine, presented the “Healing Anxiety and Depression” workshop.
